Background of the Study
Global security policies, including arms control agreements and non-proliferation treaties, are designed to reduce the risks associated with the spread of advanced weaponry. In Kano State, regional security dynamics are influenced by these international policies, which aim to prevent arms races and enhance collective security (Peterson, 2023). This study examines the effect of global security policies on regional arms control measures, focusing on the extent to which these policies are implemented locally and contribute to disarmament and conflict prevention. The research explores the role of international negotiations, verification protocols, and confidence-building measures in shaping regional arms control frameworks (Quinn, 2024). By analyzing policy documents, arms trade data, and expert interviews, the study assesses both the successes and limitations of global security policies in achieving meaningful arms reduction in Kano State. This investigation provides insights into how international security measures can be tailored to address regional specificities and enhance long-term stability (Reed, 2025).
Statement of the problem
Despite the establishment of comprehensive global security policies, the effective control of arms in Kano State remains a challenge. The implementation of arms control measures is often hampered by local political dynamics, inadequate enforcement mechanisms, and the persistent threat of illicit arms transfers (Stevens, 2023). Critics contend that while international treaties set ambitious disarmament goals, the translation of these policies into practical arms reduction on the ground is frequently inconsistent. This study addresses the problem of whether current global security policies effectively contribute to regional arms control in Kano State or if structural challenges limit their impact, thereby necessitating policy adjustments and enhanced local cooperation (Turner, 2024).
Objectives of the Study:
To analyze the global security policies relevant to arms control.
To evaluate the impact of these policies on regional arms reduction in Kano State.
To propose recommendations for improving arms control measures.
Research questions
How do global security policies influence regional arms control in Kano State?
What are the primary challenges to effective arms reduction locally?
What strategies can enhance the implementation of arms control policies?
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides a critical evaluation of global security policies and their effectiveness in promoting regional arms control in Kano State. The insights gained will assist policymakers and security experts in refining disarmament strategies and improving enforcement mechanisms. By addressing structural challenges, the research contributes to enhanced regional stability and long-term peace (Reed, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to the evaluation of global security policies on regional arms control in Kano State and does not extend to other aspects of international security.
